Its all about the birthday!!!

We seem to be on a never ending cycle of birthdays at the moment..... every week brings another party, another invite out, another party bag etc........

When did it become soooooooo much hard work having a birthday.

No1 son recently turned 5 and you would have thought he was approaching man hood with all the pomp and circumstance that went along with it.

Firstly we were going to have a few friends round for tea, then it was going out to a soft play place, then it was hiring a hall for a party with his whole class (plus cousins and outside friends!!!!!!!) and if you have a hall you have to have an entertainer and if you are having an entertainer then it has to be fancy dress!!!!!!!!!! can you believe how this snowballed!!!!!!!!!!!

On top of the party you then have to get a cake (trust me i tried to make one but it had to be star wars and my millenium falcon building skills are pretty ropey!) then its party bags which have to be themed!  oh and balloons, you have to have balloons apparently!!Then there is food for the party, and maybe some tit bits for the accompanying adult! oh and the most important thing the actual birthday present!!

Holy guacomole batman I need to remortgage the house!!!   How did it become such a circus show, why is everything so expensive? the party people have certainly got this market cornered and know how to charge. Ouch!!!        Because as with everything (or maybe it is just me trying to keep up with the jones) you want to give your children what they want (within reason! i might add) and you want the children coming to the party to have a good time (and the parents to say how fabbie everything was - i know we are all thinking it, comparing this party to that party etc..... we all do it so don't pretend!!!) you just dont realise how things tot up till after the fact

And of course the darling diva has taken all this in and has started planning her birthday (which isn't till june I might add!!) She wants a peppa pig cake, balloons, a tea party, all her friends round for a disco, glitter, fancy dress, face painting, oh the list goes on.  Then in the supermarket today she found a leaflet for peppa pig world and now everything has changed... she wants to spend the day with peppa on the rides, going on all the fast ones and riding in all the red cars........... oh to live in her world!!!!!

But it was when i really started to think about the kids birthdays over the last few years that i realised that even the adults birthdays are taken over by the kids - for my husbands birthday we went to a water park/swimming pool/slide thing because thats what the kids wanted to do. For my birthday we went to the zoo because thats what the kids wanted to do. They blow the candles out, they open the cards, they rip off the wrapping paper!!

I want my birthday back please! I want it to be all about me!!!!  mentally i am only six so if i don't get what i want i will scream and scream and scream until i am sick!!!!!!!!!!
