Pink verses Blue

Quite a few people I know who are prgnant or have just had babies found out the sex of the unborn bundle. A wonder of modern science!  We wanted a suprise with No1 son but when it came to the darling diva I needed to know exactly what I had let myself in for and needed a couple of months to get used to the idea of the different possible combinations -  boy and girl, boy and boy!!

So now I am thinking of all the plus and minus points of each sex and the wonders those new mums have to look forward to!!
For example:

You can dress a girl nicely! Lets face it we all wanted our own doll to dress up in pretty, flouncy, lovely, glittery, sequinny things!!!! And lots and lots of pink!! (and Im not really a big fan of pink but i do remember doing a pink wash when the diva was a baby!!!)  No woman really wants to have a baby that she has to dress in trousers and multicoloured mud spattered t-shirts!!!  Have you been round the boys section of next and gap? it makes you want to cry!!!!

You can change a boys nappy alot quicker than a girls!! just a quick wipe around all the bits, cos lets face it they are all on show! no creases and folds for poo to hide in!!  However a boy will shoot a jet of wee into your face just as soon as you think your finished!

Girls develop faster.  By the time the diva was two I was having full on conversations about pets, toys friends etc. and her favourite word was 'why?'.  The average two and a half year old boy by contrast is virtually monosyllabic (which doesn't really change when they become men if we are honest!!)
But with this quicker developing comes more interset and if you leave the room for more than a minute a girl will be into everything followed by the words 'whats that?'. A boy will be too engrossed in the super heros on the tele - at least this is what would happen in our house!!!.

Boys devote their time to reducing their clothes to rags by the end of a battle filled day. Girls lives are full of woman shouting , 'be careful/ mind your dress, top, skirt on the dirty floor/grass/muddy puddles.

However the two big drawbacks of having a girl are a) it makes it much easier to repeat history and turn into your mother (not so bad in my case as my mummy is pretty perfect but there were moments!!) and b) you are condemed to relive all the painful parts of your own childhood with murderous playground cliques, misguided love of overpriced tat and unsuitable men !!!

And then you have to factor in how these two completely different entities work when you throw a sibling into the mix.
Sibling rivalry is  a wonderful thing - No matter how much you insist you love your brother/sister, that they are your best friend, lodged deep in the primative part of our brain is the understanding that anyone else is a rival for our parents affection!!
Who is No1??????  Ask my brother we constanly bicker about who is better, - me obviously!!!

When the sibling is a sister it maked more sense that there is direct competition. Hardwired into her brain are the same charms and tricks for getting around parents -Im guessing!!

Rivalry amongst brothers is alot more simple. They literally wrestle through life and the one that is the taller/bigger/more heavily muscles asult wins by default! (have actually seen this in action!)

Throw a brother and sister into the mix and all the rules go out of the window!  Brothers bash, sisters concoct plans. Brothers react immediatly with force, sisters react immediatley with forced tears and sad faces!!  Obviously there are exceptions to the rules, but on the whole girls stick out their tongues from behind the parents legs, boys war cry and charge in!

So which is better? Blue or pink?
Hmmmmmmmmmmm, weighing it up, taking it all into consideration, watching my two tormenting each other, I think I will have a PURPLE one please, - only the best bits of both! and failing that ........... a goldfish! glub glub !!
